EMPATHY DIGITAL LAUNCHES!!!

Empathy is proud to announce the first two releases on our Empathy Digital indent. EMPD001 – Trei’s “heartbeat” and “virginia”, also EMPD002 – Demus’ “Black flash cut” and “F.U.N.K. feelin” are both available for download at major online stores now.Demus bio:

Demus started playing with sound when he built his first 4 channel mixer out of an electronics kit set when he was 15. Moving out of home and into university life he hosted a Friday night show on student radio station Contact 89 FM. During this time he purchased his first sampler and synth and began making ‘electronica’. He then meet jazz musician Mark P and formed the band ‘Acid Breakers’ who were heavy influenced by the Beastie Boys, Chemical Brothers and Prodigy. They entered the national battle of the bands competition and came in a close second to the now legendary rock outfit ‘Datsuns’ in the finals. The band split and Demus began discovering the nuskool breaks sound coming out of the UK.

He began writing breaks and had his first tune ‘Shockhorror’ pressed to dub plate as part of the Heineken thirst competition. Soon after he was then given a radio show on Auckland’s Fleet FM. A second dub plate followed this co-produced with DJ Snitch. Databass records then picked up ‘Release’ for the opening track to the labels second compilation. ‘Release’ also had music a video made for it receiving airplay time on C4 music channel. During this Demus had been running the weekly breaks party with fellow DJ Randomplay. With so many local DJs making hot tunes Demus and Randomplay started there own label and released the breaks compilation ‘Kingsland Electro’ featuring tracks from Timmy Schumacher and Baitercell, A-Spark, Greg Churchill, Antiform, with Demus himself co-producing 3 of the tracks.

Demus then left the sunny shores of NZ for the rain covered streets of London. As well as starting a new brand ‘SpinellaDrive’ Demus has been forging a name in the scene with gigs at Babalou, Plan B, Blag Club, Inigo, and a residency at Shebu. A massive break came when he secured a place in the Contiki DJ competition and was flown out to Greece to play in the finals where he took first place. He then played support for CJ Macintosh at the Ministry of Sound, and headlined the full moon party at the legendary Club Paradise in Mykinos. With his focus still strongly on production Demus will be one Breaks act to watch out for in 2007.
